Premier Gladys Berejiklian says it is believed most river systems across the state have peaked but is warning people to stay out of floodwaters. “The weather briefing I have confirms that we're not likely to have any adverse weather conditions for at least another six or seven days, which is positive,” she said. “And the other bit of positive news I received is that, in the main, apart from the Grafton area and potentially some north-western New South Wales communities which could be impacted by what's happening in Queensland, it's believed that most river systems have peaked. “Just because you may have heard your local river has peaked or that the worst of the rising waters may have ceased, the currents underneath the surface are very strong. “The flows are doing things they don't normally do, so please stay out of those floodwaters." Ms Berejiklian said 3,000 people were able to return to their homes yesterday but 20,000 remain technically evacuated and thousands are still on alert. “The number of people on evacuation watch hasn't changed, so there are literally tens of thousands of people on alerts,” she said. “However, we are hoping that by the end of the day that number will reduce as well."
