Zaha Secret claims win

BEAUDESERT couple Sheree Drake and Greg Cornish continued their success at the Lismore Jockey Club TAB meeting yesterday.

Drake rode six-year-old mare Zaha Secret ($7) to a win in the $15, 000 M and T Tyres Open Handicap (1516m).

It finished ahead of

Ballina horse My Private Dancer ($8) with the Danny Bowen trained Horoscopes ($4.40) back in third.

Cornish, a trainer and Drake are regulars on the Northern Rivers and have been since Drake came back from a double hip replacement in 2010.

It looked like she might never race again at the time.

Cornish was delighted to win yesterday with a horse he admits has never been a superstar.

"What a good start to the day, it was a super effort," Cornish said.

"She (Zaha Secret) has done pretty well, she always hangs in there.

"There were probably a few horses in that race on the way down and she's on the way up."

Zaha Secret also won over 1600m at a Ballina Jockey Club TAB meeting earlier this month.

Its last win before that was in August last year at Murwillumbah.

"Today really suited her and she was able to get a good alley," Cornish said.

"We've had her since day one and she has slowly got up over the distances as she's got older.

"She's no superstar but she's going through the classes pretty well.

"We always enjoy coming over the border, the people are nice and friendly here."

The next Northern Rivers race meeting is at Murwillumbah on Tuesday.

There is another TAB meeting at Ballina on September 1 before the Ballina Cup on September 13.
