Youths to be recognised at Kids in Community Awards
YOUTH from across the region who are doing great things in the community will be honoured at the annual Kids in Community (KIC) Northern Rivers Awardstomorrow night.
The awards chairman Des Kelly said the night celebrates all that is wonderful about our youth and generates community-wide respect for the commitment young people are making to improve the lives of those around them.
When kids are recognised for something good, he said, it not only inspires that kid to go on and do more of that good stuff in his future but also has a flow-on effect for other kids who witness the good acts and the reward.
Getting recognised for doing good, Mr Kelly said, increases the self-worth of the youth and inspires many to go on to do great things in their lifetime.
In the years that the KIC Awards have been running, he's noticed that "more and more kids are doing good stuff".
Mr Kelly said it's something great to witness. He said he finds the quote "We can't always build a future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future" fits perfectly into the message behind the KIC Awards.
As National Youth Director for almost five years in the 80s, Mr Hyman developed and ran educational and personal de- velopment programs for adolescents nationally, securing government and NFP grants funding for innovative youth work programs.
Approximately 100 schools across Australia use his presentations each year.
