Youth, 14, robbed bottle shop

A YOUTH who committed an armed robbery at a Cabarita Beach bottle shop in March was sentenced in Tweed Heads Children’s Court yesterday.

The juvenile, who was 14 years old at the time of the offence, was given a control order, suspended for 12 months, with supervision conditions.

At 9.50am on March 15 the youth entered the shop wearing a balaclava and threw a bandana down on the counter, telling a manager to ‘fill it up’.

The manager moved forward and saw the butt of a pistol protruding from the youth’s pants.

Money was put in the bandana and the youth fled, but was recognised as he took the balaclava off in the street.

He said he had done it to help his older brother, who was suffering financial difficulties and had a pregnant girlfriend.
