YOUR THOUGHTS: Many agree NBN rollout is ‘second rate’

READERS are fired up about slow internet speeds following federal member for Richmond Justine Elliot’s comment in parliament the NBN was “second rate” and a “total disaster”.

“Constituents tell me that they are constantly frustrated that they cannot get any decent internet access,” Ms Elliot said.

When asked “What is the internet connection like at your place?”, most readers (61%) claimed it was terrible, while 21% said it was a bit patchy and 16% voted it fast and reliable.

Many shared their thoughts on Facebook as well.

“Just connected to the NBN last week. So far we are pretty happy with it,” Jackie Birch said. “Our upload speed varies between 30 and 47mbps ... we’d love the entire system to be faster but can’t complain about what we have now.”

Grahame Wheatley said “we started out with 45mbps, now we rarely get 20”.

Grahame said Telstra told him the initial fast speed was just a trial.

“Just get on with the current plan, whoever wins the next election,” Tim McRae said. “Bring as many people up to 100mbps ASAP.”

Neil Butler said he gets 20-24 mbps at Pimlico – a vast improvement from the 1-2mbps he was getting with ADSL 2.

Tamara Crerar moved up to the Northern Rivers from Tasmania recently and she said the internet speed was incomparable.

“Moved up from Tassie, from super fast NBN, to find we would be lucky to get ADSL 2,” she wrote. “Thankfully we can still stream Netflix!”

Rachael Essery said NBN has been a godsend for her.

Robyn McCormack said “so far it’s great at Tatham”.
