A TOURIST has been bitten by a small crocodile at Cape Tribulation while walking along a creek.

The 24-year-old woman, believed to be from the UK, was bitten on her upper left leg by a 1.5m saltwater crocodile at Cape Tribulation beach about 6pm yesterday, the Cairns Posts reports.

A Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman confirmed the woman was transported to Mossman Hospital for treatment of the bite mark, and discharged this morning.

Shocking footage has emerged on social media of the incident, showing the croc suddenly launched itself out of the shallow creek while the victim and a friend were filming a mudskipper.

It is the second time a tourist has been attacked by a crocodile at Cape Tribulation since May last year.

Northern NSW photographer Cindy Waldron was fatally attacked by a 4.3m croc at Thornton Beach.
