State selection Lismore 11-year-old's first step to the NBA

HE MIGHT only be 11 but Lismore basketballer Zeus Rooke is already thinking NBA.

The Lismore Public School student has just been selected in the NSW Country under-12 team.

However, the elated youngster has had to spend some time off the court following his selection.

He fell off a scooter, injuring his leg but is champing at the bit to get back out there.

"I'm resting it and I'll be back in a few weeks," Zeus said.

"I love Boston and I want to play in the NBA."

The NSW Country team will play the Great Murray Jamboree in Albury next month.

He is one of a handful of Lismore Storm players who has made NSW Country teams so far this season.

Zeus says seeing the older kids make representative teams helped inspire him to get there.

This is his first time playing for NSW Country and he his aiming for further selection in the Australian Country side to play in New Zealand next year.

"It's a big honour and I want to thank my dad and my coach Mr Davies for helping me," Zeus said.

"The club has been a big support and so has my family."
