He joined a group of 26 talented match officials on Monday at Coffs Harbour to officiate matches played by football players aged 13 and 14.

James' selection gives him the opportunity of identification for the National Talent Pool and future Hyundai A-League match official panels.

He'll showcase his skills as a referee, assistant referee and fourth official in front of the federations' elite referee coaching staff to earn the spot.

Gary Fisher, the referee development officer for Northern New South Wales Football, said James' invitation to the National Youth Championship was a testament to his talent.

The championships finish on Friday.
