Young Northern Rivers film buffs excel at awards

IT was the "night of nights" for young film-makers across the Northern Rivers on Saturday as the winners of the 2015 Nimbin Youth Film Festival were announced.

Devina Saberi was the overall winner for her film called Javeh Sevvon The Third Space.

The film was a "deeply touching and gentle exploration into the human condition", the judges said.

The festival has been running since 2010 and this year attracted 13 "high-quality" pieces of film making across a range of genres including documentary and clay-mation, organiser Darwin Cameron said.

The festival encouraged young film-makers to tell their stories and people could submit their movie in any medium, from high- quality film formats to phone-based digital Mr Cameron said.

"The winners are the movies with the best story or narrative, the one with the best entertainment value," he said.

"A good story gets a film over the line."

Lismore Mayor Jenny Dowell was on hand for Saturday's judging and awards ceremony at the Nimbin Town Hall.

All the films were shown on large screen with first-rate sound at the hall.
