Lauren means business

WHILE most 17-year-olds are busy worrying about exams and what they are going to do when they finish school, Toowoomba's Lauren Fickling is busy getting ready to launch her second business.

Since graduating from Harristown High School last year, Ms Fickling's client book for her home-run beauty salon, Glitz and Glamour, has almost been filled.

The young entrepreneur started out doing nails and pedicures for her family and friends before word of mouth had people booking in day sessions and wedding parties.

Riding off the success of her first business, she is now about to launch her second - Dancing Stars Toowoomba - a dance studio where she will put 12 years of dance experience and four years of teaching into practice.

"It can be very tedious for a 17-year-old with all of the paperwork involved in setting up a business," she said.

"But this is my life. I like to keep things busy."

With a maturity far beyond her years, she said the economic uncertainty experienced in the past few years is what motivated her.

"I know the economy isn't strong so I want to make sure I set myself and my family up for whatever happens in the future," she said.

"I hope one day to be able to expand my business and open my own store where I can employ my own staff."
