Young cattle dominate at Casino’s first sale of 2016

THE first sale of the year saw a small yarding of 545 head.

Young cattle made up most of the offering, with a few light and medium weight vealers, along with a small selection of yearlings penned. Quality was good, with most of the vealers well finished milk veal, along with a few plain calves.

Competition was strong for the best of the light veal, which sold from 300c-310c/kg, while medium weights ranged from 290c-323c to average close to 309c/kg.

Restocker vealer steers sold to 368c and heifers to 305c/kg.

There was only a few pens of grown cattle, with limited buyer competition.

Grown steers sold from 252c-278c, while medium and heavy weight cows ranged from 198c-220c/kg.
