You will marvel at the intrigue: Iron Fist reviewed

IRON Fist is arguably Marvel's most intriguing Netflix series to date. Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) tackles his toughest role yet as Danny Rand, who returns to New York after a 15-year absence.

Danny returns to his home city and faces the challenges of not only trying to reintegrate into a society that has moved on but reconnecting with the few friends he's had who have since accepted his apparent death.

While Danny faces up to those challenges, we learn how he became the Iron Fist.

If you don't follow comic books, like I do, then it could be difficult to fully understand the history, and mythology, of this adaptation.

It is a credit to Marvel's brains trust that Iron Fist continues the Netflix tradition of producing a series that easily navigates its way through decades of history in a way that is not only entertaining, but enthralling.

I can't fault anyone.

Jones is incredible, Tom Pelphrey is amazing as the complicated Ward Meachum and you feel every bit of Jessica Stroud's emotional journey as Joy Meachum.

The more episodes I watch, I've almost grown more interested in Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing storyline than our titular hero.

Cameos and big-name stars add even more excitement to a near-perfect recipe.

Australia's own David Wenham delivers as the mysteriously complicated Harold Meachum.

Fans of the previous Netflix series Jessica Jones will recognise Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple) and Carrie-Ann Moss (Jeri Hogarth) as the franchise builds towards the unification of the four main heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) in The Defenders, which is scheduled for release later this year.

Iron Fist is a series that is much more of a mystery than the normal superhero story of self-discovery and the reluctant path to becoming a hero.

We were blown away by Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) crime-fighting persona Daredevil in 2015 before Kristen Ritter introduced arguably the most reluctant hero so far in Jessica Jones later that year.

Mike Colter's indestructible Luke Cage blew audiences away last year but this year belongs to the mythical, mystical Iron Fist. The series will debut on Netflix on Friday.
