Yaya Toure cops ban for drink-driving

FOOTBALL: Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has been banned from driving for 18 months after admitting to drink-driving, despite saying he hadn't "intentionally consumed alcohol”.

Toure, who was arrested in east London on November 28, appeared in court earlier this week and was fined $91,000.

According to reports, Toure had been at a party with friends and was drinking Diet Coke from a jug, which he later found had brandy in it.

The 33-year-old Toure is a Muslim and said in a statement on his Facebook page that he has "always refused alcohol”.

The former Ivory Coast international said: "As I was above the permitted limit when tested on the night, I decided not to challenge the charge.

"However, it was important to me that I told the court that I had not intentionally consumed alcohol.”

Toure added that "the judge in his sentencing remarks accepted that I had not been intentionally drinking”.
