Wright in the rankings race

BROTHERS Mikey and Owen Wright are currently both inside the top 10 in the World Surf League ratings after the Uluwatu event in Indonesia.

Mikey, who surfed for Lennox-Ballina Boardriders as a junior jumped ahead five places and is ranked seventh after reaching the semi-finals while Owen went up one spot in ninth.

Sister Tyler Wright is the current women's world champion and is fourth.

She also reached the semi-finals at Uluwatu and is aiming for three consecutive world titles this year.

Mikey is the youngest in the family and is well on his way to qualifying for a fulltime spot on the tour next year.

Meanwhile, Matt Wilkinson is 29th and will need to lift his game in the second half of the season or risk dropping off the professional tour.

The next event is the J-Bay Open in South Africa starting July 2.
