OPINION: Word is on the street - let’s eat

FOOD, glorious food.

It has become a national obsession and has spawned some of the most popular reality TV programs on our screens.

We have a major foodie event in Lismore today I hope is a big success.

The Eat the Street festival started with a bang last year and is set to get bigger and bigger as this region pitches itself as a major hub for food producers and restaurants alike.

The Northern Star has backed this event as one of the "signature" events we help to sponsor.

We've picked a range of both established and emerging events to give the broadest possible coverage of both with advertising, marketing and editorial support.

Eat the Street is a celebration of street food but it is also much more with many sideshows pitched at adults and children alike.

For many it will be trying the well-priced sampling plates from the plethora of restaurants that will be cooking up a storm.

Last year it proved to be so popular that exhibitors ran out of food, so organisers have ensured that extra supplies have been brought in for today.

Let's hope the weather gods smile on this event which deserves to be a big success and a date everyone will have marked in their calendars for years to come.
