Woodlawn cricket trio recognised

THREE cricketers from St John’s College Woodlawn have been named in the Australasian Marist merit team following the annual carnival at Bendigo in Victoria.

They are Dane Clarke, who was named captain and wicketkeeper; Dain Moreton, who opened the batting and bowls left-arm spin; and batsman Ben Cooper, who was named player of the carnival after a consistent run with the bat that included a century against Sacred Heart College of Auckland.

All three boys play their club cricket in the Far North Coast LJ Hooker League.

Clarke is with Ballina Bears, while Moreton and Cooper play for Marist Brothers.

Roger Boyd was chosen as nominal coach of the merit team after Woodlawn won the carnival, clinching the title with a win over Marcellin College Bulleen on the final day.
