Women's grand final looks close

ALSTONVILLE and Richmond Rovers are poised for one of the most even grand finals for years in Football FNC women’s premier league soccer at Oakes Oval, Lismore, tonight from 8pm.

In recent seasons one side has tended to dominate the top ranks of the women’s competition but this year little has separated Villa and Rovers, who have emerged as clearly the best sides.

Villa won the minor premiership by just two points from Rovers and all three of their clashes have been won by the odd goal, with two wins for Villa but a 1-0 win for Rovers in their most recent clash.

Both sides have quality players capable of turning a match, with Alstonville striker Chelsea Coleman winning the Golden Boot this year and Rovers midfielder Sarah Flower named Player of the Year.

Their clash will be preceded by the women’s second division grand final at 6pm, when minor premiers Casino will start as favourites against Byron Bay, which finished fourth but has surged to reach the decider.

Two men’s grand finals will also be played tonight at Crozier Field.

Italo Stars will look for the premiership double when they take on Richmond Rovers in third division at 6pm.

Rovers also have a chance of the premiership double in second division against Byron Bay at 8pm.
