Woman tragically dies in rollover at Bondoola
PERSONAL belongings, including blankets, plastic bins and a school bag, lay strewn over parts of a Bondoola road following a fatal traffic crash early yesterday morning.
The Morning Bulletin understands 33-year-old Yeppoon woman Rebecca McGinty was the woman who died in a car crash at 3am.
The woman's family has been notified.
Ms McGinty was driving a silver Holden Commodore sedan along Cobraball Rd, about 5.5km from Rockhampton-Yeppoon Rd when she lost control of the car.
The sedan then flipped and rolled several times.
Rockhampton Senior Sergeant Ralph Faria said the woman's car overturned on the section of Cobraball Rd where the bitumen meets the gravel part of the road.
A Yeppoon teenager, 15, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor head injuries, according to a police media spokesman. She was transported to Rockhampton Hospital as a precaution.
A Morning Bulletin source yesterday said when he arrived at the crash scene, to tow the car from the scene, "it looked like the woman and her passenger had packed up their belongings into the car".
"All the stuff inside the car lay all over the road," he said.
Yeppoon Senior Sergeant Bob Barclay said the teenager was not an immediate family member; she was more of a "family friend".
He also said the teenager lived in Cobraball Rd.
Snr Sgt Faria said the forensic crash unit was still investigating the accident. He said speed and driver error could have been contributing factors.
The accident takes the Capricornia police region's death toll to eight so far this year.
The number of fatal crashes for the same period (January to October) has dropped significantly over the past three years.
Between January and October last year there were 21 Capricornia traffic fatalities.
There were 16 fatalities between January and October in 2012 and 23 in 2011 for the same period.
