Woman rescued from floodwaters as storms hit Tweed

THERE was flash flooding in parts of the Tweed Shire over the weekend as thunderstorms made their way across the region.

Murwillumbah SES volunteers were called out to rescue a woman from her car at midnight on Sunday night.

The woman got into trouble after driving into flood water over a causeway at Piggabeen.

She phoned Tweed Byron LAC police who then alerted SES crews.

An SES spokesman said the rescue took 10 minutes.

"There is more rain coming but at this stage we are unsure of how much," he said.

"Do not drive through flood water at all - if it's flooded, forget it."
