Woman injured in attempted bag snatch at South Lismore

A WOMAN was punched in the face and hit her head on a car door in an attempted bag snatch at South Lismore.

Police said the woman, 46, was attacked by a man at Union Street about 4.30pm yesterday.

The man grabbed at her purse as she was getting out of her car. The pair struggled over the purse with the woman falling back and hitting her head on the frame of the car door.

The man then punched her in the face and ran off empty-handed.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Lismore Base Hospital where she was treated for a cut above her eye and "soreness" to the back of her head, police said.

The woman's attacker was described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his early 20s, 165cm tall with a thin build and dark curly hair.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a black paint-stained shirt, dirty blue jeans and was barefoot.
