Woman in wheelchair hit by car

A WOMAN in a wheelchair has been hit while on a pedestrian crossing at Casino.

The incident happened at around 3.30pm when a local woman in a motorised wheelchair was hit by a red 4WD ute on the crossing outside the Cecil Hotel at Casino.

It caused traffic in nearby Barker Street and along Centre Street to bank up and police were on point duty.

The ambulance was called to the scene to take the woman to hospital.

However, a Northern NSW Health Network spokeswoman said the woman, who was apparently not hurt, got out of the ambulance and never arrived at the hospital.

Maureen Lindsay of Casino was driving past when she saw the woman get hit.

"I parked the car and raced back to see if she was ok," she said.

Lousie Brammah from Lismore also was on the scene and raced to help the woman.

"I just made sure she kept still until the ambulance turned up," she said.

"I'm glad that's not something you see every day."
