Byron woman dies after Skinners Shoot crash

UPDATE 2.10pm: A 29-year-old Byron Bay woman has died following a serious crash on Skinners Shoot Rd about midnight on Tuesday.

A police media spokeswoman said the woman died in the Gold Coast University Hospital about 12.35pm yesterday.

The spokeswoman said coroners procedures in the case were being undertaken by the Queensland Police Service.

The Ballina based North Coast Crash investigation unit are investigating the cause of the incident.

UPDATE 3.45pm: A 29 year old Byron Bay woman remains in a critical condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital following a single vehicle crash on Skinners Shoot Rd about midnight on Tuesday.

Police said the crash occurred between 11.50pm on Tuesday and 12.10am on Wednesday when a Honda Accord with two occupants was travelling south on Skinners Shoot Rd, Skinners Shoot. The car left the road and hit a number of roadside trees.

The driver, a 22 year old Alstonville woman, was taken to Byron Bay Hospital where mandatory blood and urine tests were carried out. She also underwent a medical assessment but had no serious injuries and was released. Police are still waiting for the results of the tests.

The passenger, a 29 year old Byron Bay woman, was taken to Byron Bay Hospital by ambulance and then transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Life Saver Helicopter where she remains in a critical condition.

Investigations are continuing at the site and the vehicle is undergoing mechanical examination.

Emergency services including the Tweed/Byron police, Rural Fire Service, Brunswick Valley Rescue Squad, NSW Ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Life Saver Helicopter responded to the incident.

UPDATE 10.40am: A WOMAN critically injured in a crash this morning was driving on Skinners Shoot Road, Skinners Shoot, when the crash happened.

A spokesperson for New South Wales ambulance said they were called to Skinners Shoot Rd, Skennars Head at about 12.07am this morning to reports of a motor vehicle accident.

The female patient was then transported by ambulance to the Byron Bay District Hospital in a critical condition.

From there, she was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.

 

9.30am: A WOMAN has been flown to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition after a crash at Byron Bay.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene just after midnight.

The rescue service has reported that woman was unrestrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
