Woman hit by a car in Mackay in critical condition

A WOMAN is in a critical condition in the Mackay Base Hospital after being struck by a car in Mackay this morning.

Queensland Ambulance Service was called to the scene in Shakespeare St, at 11.12am.

The 59-year-old woman was taken to hospital with major leg injuries.

Police are invesitgating the crash and issued a statement saying that initial information showed that the accident occurred between James and Sophia streets. The statement said a car struck a pedestrian who was attempting to enter a parked car.

Police said traffic diversions were currently in place and asked motorists to plan their trip accordingly.
