Woman disgusted by lack of bathrooms at Aldi
BEV CONTE, of Casino, was excited about taking her 85-year-old mother for a 'big day out' at the new Aldi store in Lismore on Sunday, but she won't be taking her there again.
The store doesn't have a bathroom and Ms Conte thought it was 'pretty poor' when staff at the supermarket advised she take her mother to the Hungry Jacks next door.
Ms Conte said her mother was 'horrified' at having to use the facilities of another store.
“They don't advertise that they don't have a bathroom, so I just assumed they would,” Ms Conte said.
“I bet we haven't been the only ones that have needed one either.
“Think of all those mothers with young kids that go (to) the Aldi.”
However, it is standard practice for stand-alone Aldi stores in Australia to be built without bathroom facilities.
Ms Conte believes this shows the supermarket chain hasn't thought about its customer's needs.
Aldi spokesperson Kate Gittings said she was sorry to hear about the situation encountered by Ms Conte.
“I'm sorry to hear a customer was distressed, but at this stage we do not have plans to incorporate toilet facilities into future stand-alone Aldi stores,” she said.
Ms Conte said it was a shame she could no longer take her mother to the store because she really 'loves supermarkets'.
