Woman dies from unknown substance

A SOUTH Lismore woman has died after ingesting an unconfirmed substance.

A triple zero call was made at 7.20am to the ambulance service and upon arrival paramedics found a 44-year-old woman unconscious and not breathing.

An ambulance spokesperson said paramedics transported the woman to Lismore Base Hospital, but attempts to resuscitate the woman en route were unsuccessful.

Lismore police inspector Mick Dempsey said there would be a post mortem and that the situation was now a matter for the coroner.

He said it would be most likely six to eight weeks before any confirmation could be made as to the cause of the woman's death.
