Woman chased, tackled after running from police
A WOMAN has been arrested following a car and foot chase by police.
Police from Richmond Local Area Command allege they attended a liquor store on Sunday evening to investigate a shoplifting offence, Senior Constable David Henderson said.
As they arrived they saw a 19-year-old Casino woman punch a man in the face then drive away.
When police signaled for the car to pull over it accelerated harshly and drove off, Snr Const Henderson said.
The car drove along Walker Street, through the intersection of the Bruxner Highway without giving way, then skidded through the intersection of Walker and Dyraaba street for about 30 metres before it crashed into the gutter.
The driver then jumped out of the car and ran through a paddock.
Police chased her on foot for about 200 metres where she was stopped with an expert-level tackle, Snr Const Henderson said.
The woman provided a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Casino Police Station.
There she was charged with high range PCA, disobey police direction (fail to stop), offensive conduct and negligent driving.
She also had her driver's licence suspended and will be charged with two shoplifting offences in due course.
