Woman charged with accessory to murder and arson

POLICE investigating the disappearance of a woman in north Queensland have charged a 29-year-old woman with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Ayr woman Sarahjane Downer disappeared on September 1 and remains were discovered in her burnt-out vehicle two days later in a creek near Townsville.

Police are yet to confirm the remains are those of Ms Downer.

The woman charged on Saturday will face Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday and also faces charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, arson and interfering with a corpse.

Thirty-year-old former soldier Kynan Watego Devenna has been charged with the murder of the 26-year-old.
