Woman caught with 5000 steroid tablets at airport

A WOMAN has been caught at Brisbane International Airport with more than 5000 steroid tablets.

Australian Border Protection and Customs officers discovered the 5586 steroid tablets in a female passenger's luggage and masked in vitamin bottles and sachets labelled "lavender bath and soak salt".

The woman had travelled from Thailand to Brisbane when she was intercepted on Monday.

Importing steroids into Australia without a permit attracts a maximum $170,000 fine and five years jail.

ACBPS National Manager Airport Operations North Craig Sommerville said this seizure highlighted the expert training and professionalism of officers at the border.

"This seizure demonstrates the ongoing hard work of our officers at Australia's frontline, who every day continue to intercept illegal substances before they reach our communities," Mr Sommerville said.
