Woman attacked in act of betrayal
A GOOD Samaritan who off-ered a flood victim emergency accommodation told the Lismore District Court yesterday that he dragged her from her bed by the hair and threatened her with a knife.
It is also alleged he sexually assaulted her and threatened to anally rape her before falling asleep on her bed.
The 45-year-old man, whose name was suppressed, is charged with assault with an act of indecency; recklessly causing grievous bodily harm; and threatening to inflict bodily harm on the victim with intent to have sexual intercourse.
The court was told the woman, a Kyogle resident in her 50s, had met the man three months before the 2008 floods.
On hearing he was homeless, she offered him short-termaccommodation in her home.
Things went wrong on the morning of January 20, 2008, when it is alleged the man ent-ered her bedroom, called her ‘a dog' and said ‘people were in jail' because of her.
He then slapped her facerepeatedly causing her nose to bleed, pulled her by her hairinto the shower, threatened to anally rape her and tied her to the bed by her legs before he fell asleep, the prosecutor said.
“He told me that if my nose kept bleeding he would cut it off,” the woman said. “I was scared. I was in shock.”
The defence lawyer told the court the victim and the acc-used had become friends and had had consensual sex before the alleged incident.
When questioned about her relationship with the accused, the woman agreed they had a brief sexual encounter after he came to stay at her house, but decided not to pursue a sexual relationship further.
The trial continues.
