A TOOWOOMBA woman accused of cruelty to a pet dog has had her case adjourned in the city's Magistrates Court.

Jodie May Paton, 28, handed herself into the Toowoomba Police Station and then appeared briefly in custody before the court.

She was not required to enter any pleas to charges of cruelty to an animal and failing in duty of care to an animal.

Prosecutors claim a female poodle cross had a tight rubber band placed around its mouth as a form of muzzle to stop her from barking resulting in a cut to the dog's mouth which caused infection and trauma.

Duty solicitor Claire Graham asked for an adjournment so her client could obtain legal advice.

Magistrate Graham Lee therefore remanded Paton on bail and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on October 30.
