Wollongbar developers press on

SUPERMARKET developer IGA Distribution hopes to have final approval for its new supermarket at the old Bellowing Bull site at Wollongbar in the coming weeks.

Troy Outerbridge, from North Coast Commercial Real Estate which facilitated the sale, said that although it was sad to see the restaurant go, the site had tremendous potential for commercial development to improve shopping facilities at Wollongbar.

“The site has been bought for an expanded Supa IGA supermarket,” he said.

He sees the development as a new opportunity for Wollongbar to further develop the village centre.

Wollongbar’s current IGA owner, Rod Curtis, won’t be at the reins of the new store but believes the development is in the best interests of the township.

“It’s great to see the IGA brand growing in our region,” he said

“A full shop IGA will be fantastic for the local community and encourage other business into the Wollongbar area.”

The new 2000 m{+2} superarket will include 300 m{+2} of speciality shops which are being marketed through North Coast Commercial.

The new owners hope to integrate the Wollongbar commercial precinct by linking the development with adjoining centres.

The Roads and Traffic Authority has recently agreed to provide improved vehicular access from the Bruxner Highway.

The developer believes there will also be a reduction in traffic flows in the residential areas to the north of the shopping centre and near Wollongbar Public School.

Town planner for IGA, Angus Witherby, is excited about the development.

“IGA Distribution is currently working through the assessment process with the Ballina Shire Council and is looking to secure approval within the coming weeks,” he said.
