CHAMPION mare Winx added a world record 23rd Group 1 win to her list of accomplishments as she cruised to victory in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday

Winx backed up her impressive first-up win in the Apollo Stakes with another emphatic victory, which equalled Tie The Knot's record of four successive Chipping Norton wins.

Chris Waller's champion started at $1.08 and was given a run for her money by Happy Clapper, who skipped away at the top of the straight, but jockey Hugh Bowman steadied her up and she knuckled down to reel him in inside the 100m.

"I knew Blake [Shinn] would try and pull a rabbit out of the hat (on Happy Clapper), Bowman said. "I knew he wouldn't be able to help himself.

"I didn't expect him to do it that way. I had the horse to get me out of trouble and she has done it time and time again."

The win extended her winning sequence to 31 and pushed the four-time Cox Plate winner's prize money earnings to almost $23.5 million.

Waller admitted his heart was in his mouth for while as Happy Calapper kicked away, but his mighty mare produced her trademark finish.

"The heart beats when she goes on to the track," Waller said. "Stops beating when she comes off safely. I can see the sun going down, and hopefully we can get through two more races.

"The horse. She is a superstar. She is very, very special."

Winx's next assignment will be the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Golden Slipper Day, March 23.

Her ultimate autumn target and final run of her career will be in the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick on April 13.
