Winsome feedback 'negative'

'LIMITED' community feedback has been received on Lismore City Council's proposal to give $100,000 to help set up a homeless shelter at the Winsome Hotel.

A report to be presented at tonight's council meeting shows only one written submission was received in support of the proposal.

Eleven phone submissions were taken, with five people raising concerns about safety issues for the North Lismore community.

Three people showed 'strong opposition' to the proposed development and the use of council funds for the project.

All respondents criticised the consultation process.

However, council staff will recommend that councillors authorise the transfer of $100,000 from the 2009/10 Budget to the Lismore Soup Kitchen.

The second recommendation is that the council authorise the release of $200,000 from the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
