Wins for Glee, Northern Star

DEFENDING FNC premiers Glee defeated Ballina 5-1 in JH Williams League women’s hockey at Hepburn Park, Goonbellabah, on Saturday while Northern Star had a 5-3 win over United at Murwillumbah.

Alstonville and East Lismore went down.

After it was 1-all at half-time, Glee took control, scoring four second-half goals.

Kim Chappel posted a hat-trick, with the other goals to Nicole Danvers and Cassie Douglas.

Star started well at Murwillumbah with an impressive goal by new recruit Katie Thomson two minutes in.

Amanda West scored the second goal.

United hit back to make it 2-1 but Thomson found the net again before half-time.

In the second half the Star half line paved the way for a comfortable win, with Ashli Olive and Amy Coshan getting on the scoresheet.

Mullum defeated Alstonville 3-1 at Hepburn Park with Nicole Danvers putting her team 2-0 up at half-time.

In the second half Chloe Reichert scored Mullum’s third before Alstonville found the net through Sarah Lidbetter.

Best for Alstonville were Kristy Hanley, Kallie Seymour and Marli Hope.

For Mullum, Jo Tunstall, Kim Chappel and Sue Cramer impressed.

Kingscliff defeated Easts 5-1 in the other game at Murwillumbah.
