Winning double for jockey Ben Looker
JOCKEY Ben Looker rode a winning double at the Lismore Turf Club TAB race meeting on Saturday.
Looker saluted the judge on four- year-old mare Miss Heidelicious ($1.70 favourite) for Gold Coast trainer Helen Page in the Maiden Hcp (1100m) and on seven-year-old gelding Hidden Rock ($17) for Grafton trainer Shane Everson in the Benchmark 55 Hcp (1100m).
Grafton-raised and apprenticed, Looker started as a stable hand with John Shelton as a 12-year-old before and after school.
As an apprentice he also spent time with Laurie Mayfield-Smith in Brisbane, riding 200 winners during his apprenticeship.
Last season he was among the top five jockeys in NSW country racing with more than 80 winners; so far this season he has 55.
The six races in Lismore on Saturday were run on a heavy track.
The next race meeting locally is at Ballina on Friday, with the Beef Week Cup meeting at Casino set down for Friday, May 27.
