A winning design

WOLLONGBAR TAFE student Sylvia Pawlus has won the NSW Student Association Diary Design Competition.

As winner of the design competition, Sylvia received $1,500 prize money and her design will grace the front cover of the 2012 student diary issued to all Student Association members in NSW.

Sylvia is studying Certificate 3 in Media at Wollongbar Campus as part of her year 11 and 12 studies at Richmond River High School.

"When I found out that I'd won the competition I was so surprised because entries were from all over the state," Sylvia said.

"My TAFE teacher encouraged me to enter so I thought I'd give it a go, just for the experience I never thought I'd win."

Sylvia's inspiration for the design came from wanting to do something different with rich deep colours, a bit abstract and futuristic, while keeping in mind that it had to work well on a diary cover.

"When I finish school I'd like to work or continue studies in graphic design, marketing or advertising and winning this competition gives me more confidence in achieving my goals," she said.
