Wine on the high seas
SUPERLINER Pacific Dawn is about to create history - it will be the first super cruise ship to make Brisbane its home port when it berths in the sub tropical city from December 19 this year, as it begins the first ever year round program of cruises out of Brisbane.
Pacific Dawn is one of the great ships in P&O's fleet boasting 11 decks, two swimming pools, a choice of five evening dining areas, three kids' clubs, nine bars and lounges (including a casino lounge), a double storey show lounge and a fabulous fitness centre.
And for those wondering if cruising is really their cup of tea, the great news is P&O will once again be offering their hugely successful gourmet mini-cruises - three nights sailing the high seas while supping on sensational food and wine from the Hunter Valley region.
I was on board the last gourmet cruise which sailed from Sydney earlier this year and I'm pleased to report it was a sensational indulgence - morsels from some of the Hunter's most accomplished chefs, such as Andrew Clarke of Pokolbin's acclaimed Rock Restaurant, included shellfish bisque and salmon caviar, stuffed duck breast, finest cuts of meat, and delectable desserts - (oh, the desserts!) - all accompanied by the best of the Hunter's wines.
On board, the atmosphere was culturally electric, with art auctions, barista courses, wine appreciation classes, beer and cheese tastings and, thankfully, a range of fitness regimes to keep the waistline under some semblance of control.
Every night is party night in the wonderful Enzo Piano designed nightclub and in the Zodiac showroom.
