Win puts Brothers in box seat for third spot in play-offs

BROTHERS improved their chances of making the play-offs with an 8-5 win over Norths in FNC Major League baseball on Saturday.

Consecutive hits from Ben Daly, Ahren Baxter and Matt Hill in the third innings gave Norths a 2-0 lead and they increased that in the fourth to 3-0 when Paul Simes scored after a double.

Brothers hit back in the fifth with hits from Andrew Muscat, Jake Youngberry, Matt Gahan and Jeremy Sexton, tying it up at 3-all.

They went to a 6-3 lead in the sixth with consecutive hits from Andrew Carroll, Youngberry, Pat Doyle, Jake Muscat and Gahan, then made it 8-3 in the eighth with a single from Gahan and a Norths infield error.

Norths pegged back two runs but it was not enough.

Brothers out-hit Norths' normally strong batting line-up 17 to seven.

Best with the bat for Brothers were Jake Youngberry and Matt Gahan with three hits each while for Norths, Ben Daly led the way with two hits

In the other game, Workers tallied 20 hits in a dominating 21-7 win over Easts.

Aaron Olley was outstanding with three hits including a two-run home run. He was well supported by Jason Caught, Scott McClelland and Matt Short, each with three hits.

Easts could not capitalise on hits, and tight Workers fielding also restricted them.

Rookie Will Riley had two hits for Easts.
