Wife on murder charge

FORMER Casino grazier Jeffrey Ryan’s estranged wife Helen has been charged with his murder.

The 49-year-old Tamworth woman was refused bail.

She appeared briefly in Tamworth Local court today but did not apply for bail.

The bail hearing will continue tomorrow.

Tamworth detectives last night arrested and charged Mrs Ryan with the murder of her husband on October 24 at his Duri property near Tamworth.

She was also charged with conspiracy to murder; acting to pervert the course of justice; and concealing a serious offence.

Mrs Ryan still lived on her husband’s property where he was found dead near his house from a single gunshot wound to his back.

The separated couple have a thirteen year old daughter.

The task force detectives travelled to Casino last month to attend Mr Ryan’s funeral and to pursue investigations.

For the past six weeks detectives have carried out extensive inquiries.

Police divers and forensics officers, including specialist ballistics sniffer dogs and firearm experts, combed Mr Ryan’s and neighbouring properties collecting evidence.

More arrests are expected.
