ARLI Bankier couldn't imagine his daughter Aster missing out on the experiences he had with his own dad.

That's why he's chosen to be a stay at home dad when his wife goes back to work in April next year.

"I spent many years with my dad when I was little and have good memories," Arli said.

Arli, 23, doesn't want his daughter, who is currently ten weeks old, missing out on the special father daughter bond.

His wife Belinda Delaney took 12 months off in maternity leave and will return to her role as a coordinator of school aged care at PCYC in Hervey Bay in April.

That's when Arli the painter and decorator will take on daddy duties.

The down-to-earth dad is a big outdoors man and can't wait to take his little girl on adventures with him during at least six months off work.

"We'll be going to the beach whenever we get the chance," he said.

When Belinda has days off the family will head to Rainbow Beach for surfing trips.

When it comes to daddy duties, Arli has plenty of experience up his sleeve.

The hands on dad has changed nappies, bottle fed and bathed his daughter from birth.

"I think I changed almost every nappy in her first week while my wife recovered from birth," Arli said.

Another reason why the family is choosing for Arli to stay at home, is to cut the costs of daycare.

"Daycare is quite expensive and I'm not a big believer in having other people raise my child," Arli said.

As well as having precious time with his daughter, Arli said the time off would give him the chance to have some time off his usual job.

"You never know there could be a career change," he said.
