NEW tourism data released yesterday will help local councils and regional tourism organisations make important planning decisions for the future.
Comprehensive visitor profiles for local government areas - including all six regions on the Northern Rivers - were released by Destination NSW at the Local Government and Shires Association's annual tourism conference in Gunnedah.
These profiles are useful tools for allocating resources, creating strategies and marketing, Destination NSW chief executive Sandra Chipchase said.
"The profiles were created by mining data from Tourism Research Australia ... gathered over four years to September 2011," she said.
"Where there is sufficient sample size, the profiles show the number of visitors to each council area broken into the three key source markets of domestic day trips, domestic overnight visitors and international visitors."
