Whether it's in a keg, a can or a bottle, we make good beer

NORTHERN Rivers brewer Stone and Wood has been included in a book listing the best Aussie beers.

With more than 400 breweries (and counting) in Australia, it was safe to say that we are a beer-loving nation.

Beer drinkers are spoilt for choice, and it can be overwhelming.

In new book Keg Bottle Can, Luke Robertson profiles 150 of the most exciting, tasty and wellmade brews from around the country, including Byron Bay's Stone and Wood.

Robertson features Stone and Wood's Stone Peer, a limited release brew he pairs in the book with "chocolate brownies... beef brisket and figs with goat's cheese".

The author also recommends Stone & Wood's Pacific Ale: " If you don't know about it yet, where have you been? Keep up".

Robertson also shares some extra recommendations for each brewery for good measure.

Rather than break it down by types of beer, Luke has divided the beers into occasions.

There are thirst quenchers for every day, beers to enjoy over a summertime barbecue, nights in front of the fire or with dinner, beers to keep for later or to impress your friends, and beers to enjoy in the shadow of the brewery.

And then there are those brews that challenge everything you thought you knew about beer.

Luke Robertson was born in Westport, New Zealand, on the West Coast of the South Island, an area that's famous for having a lot of pubs.

When he moved to Melbourne in 2005, he realised he'd have to work a bit harder to find the dark beers he missed so much.

As a result, he began exploring Australia's bars, breweries and bottle shops.

While working in operations management at a media company, he also launched his own website and podcast, Ale of a Time, in 2010, which has since gone on to win awards for its contribution to the industry.

Now he's focusing on beer full-time, and you can find him hosting events and working closely with major festivals and breweries, both in public and behind the scenes.

Keg Bottle Can is out August 1.
