Prediction of world ending fails to alarm residents
WHETHER you believe the hoo-ha surrounding the Mayan Calendar's apocalypse "prophecy" or not, the end of the world has probably crossed your mind (admit it).
It's the kind of thing Hollywood blockbusters are made of - Armageddon, Deep Impact, I Am Legend, The Day the Earth Stood Still and 2012 are just some examples of how much Hollywood, and we, as viewers, revel in it.
But with the Mayan Calendar's end fast approaching, the 2012 phenomenon may be hitting a little too close to home for some.
According to the latest "prophecy", a "set of events" will occur on December 21, though some predict it could be as early as this Friday. The date is said to coincide with the end of the Mayan Calendar.
Many believe its end predicts the end of the world.
A more modern interpretation of the 2012 phenomenon is that this date marks earth and its inhabitants undergoing a positive physical or spiritual transformation.
Do you think the world is going to end on December 21, 2012?
This poll ended on 22 December 2012.
I'm not sure yet.
I haven't thought about it.
It doesn't matter to me!
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
As for Mackay - this end of the world nonsense is not going to wash with you.
We put it to you on Facebook and you seemed as concerned about this apocalypse prediction as you have about several others.
As one Facebook user, Amos T Fairchild commented: "16 days left. But then I've already survived a few."
Others are choosing to celebrate the hype with an end-of-the-world party.
Leo Scott said: "I'm having the party to end all parties because it is the end of the world. Well, the hangover might be."
But if the end is nigh, how will it happen?
Some predict Earth will fall into a black hole, others say it will collide with a planet called Nibiru.
If Hollywood is to be believed we could be invaded by aliens, eaten by zombies or struck by a gigantic asteroid. In that case (spoiler alert) I'm sure Bruce Willis will selflessly give up his life to save us.
