What happened to freedom of speech

Janelle Saffin would force a Government appointed “ Public Interest Media Advocate” on to the Australian public. It will give her government a power it should never have, the power to determine the content of the press.
It is a blunt attempt to impose government influence on what the media reports on any issue. A vibrant free press and internet is essential to any democracy ensuring that government and other institutions can be held to account by its citizens.
This government appointed advocate would have the power to determine whether you have the right to know of any corrupt dealings or misuse of taxpayer’s money committed by politicians or public officials for example the Eddie Obied case.
It is also clear that this is an attempt by Janelle’s government to try and muzzle News Limited on reporting their failures. Conroy has claimed there is not enough diversity in the media and the media is biased against his government. That is a silly claim as the his government is well looked after by the ABC, the Fairfax Media , The Drum, Q&A; etc. against News Limited.
Our forefathers fought for freedom of speech, so please do not let this government destroy it. Let Janelle Saffin know how repulsive her and her government agenda is.
