What a trip to collect transport award

TWEED Byron and Ballina Community Transport was named the Community Transport Provider of the Year at the NSW Community Transport Awards in Canberra this week.

Manager Phil Barron and board member Jenny Hicks accepted the award on behalf of the organisation's 170-strong workforce.

This year the organisation has provided about 70,000 trips to more than 2800 people, supporting frail, disabled and transport disadvantaged people right across the Tweed, Byron and Ballina shires.

There have been plenty of successes for this group - it also received the inaugural Tweed Shire Access and Inclusion Award, and Ballina volunteer Kenneth Bolt was named 2013 NSW Volunteer of the Year.

"The Community Transport Provider of the Year Award has capped off a busy year," Mr Barron said.

"This accolade is testament to the commitment of our largely volunteer workforce."
