Wet grounds delay soccer

WET grounds are threatening to further disrupt an already dislocated opening round of Football FNC’s Tursa Anzac Cup soccer.

The opening match of the season between Italo Stars and Richmond Rovers was scheduled for last night but was washed out, while the late withdrawal of Byron Bay’s second side has left Alstonville with a first-round bye tomorrow.

The closure of Pottsville’s field has delayed the Panthers’ return to the premier ranks, postponing their clash with Lismore Thistles.

That leaves only two games remaining for tomorrow – if the fields are open.

Goonellabah is hoping to host Lismore Workers at Weston Park from 4.30pm and Byron Bay will take on coastal rivals Ballina at the Bay, also at 4.30pm.
