Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter: The simulator

IF YOU have ever wondered what it's like to fly the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter here is your chance to get a taste of what it's like.

The back of a Volkswagen Van has been fitted out with a helicopter flight simulator to give people a realistic experience of what it is like to fly a Dauphin N2 rescue helicopter the same as used by the helicopter Service.

Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter fundraising manager Zeke Huish said the mobile simulator would not have been possible without the generous support of Geoff King Motors and Fast Signs and Plastics in Coffs Harbour who donated the stickers.

"There is no way we could have afforded to set up such a realistic, technically complex, mobile flight simulator without this support," he said.

"The sponsors have given the community helirescue service and its community a wonderful Christmas present that will help us connect with our community now and into the future."

Mr Huish also thanked the time and effort engineer Craig Hamilton put into setting up the simulator.

"Craig displayed all his expertise in re-modelling the van and putting together the technology that is so realistic."

Mr Huish said the brightly painted red and yellow van will be hard to miss as it travels the region visiting shopping centres, helicopter events and various locations.

"For a small fee people can spend a few minutes 'flying' the helicopter simulator," he said.

"We encourage people to take a look inside next time they see it."
