Welcome to 2016: Fireworks, music and naked yoga

QUEENSLANDERS have rung in the new year with fireworks, music, parties - and naked yoga.

The sun was just peaking above the Pacific Ocean as thousands of festival goers at Woodford welcomed the day to the sound of chanting Buddhist monks and laughter.

After five full days of almost non-stop music, the whole Woodford Folk Festival, thousands of people, fell dead silent for three minutes on New Year's Eve as they lit candles to remember the year that was, half an hour before welcoming the year that would be.

After drinking, dancing and singing into the wee hours, the committed hordes made the trek to the top of the festival site's renowned hilltop to greet the dawn, Fairfax reported.

Late-night partiers mixed with early risers, drunk or otherwise affected revellers with devout Buddhists.

And in front of it all, with a magnificent view over the Glasshouse Mountains to the Sunshine Coast, a handful of festival goers bared all to realign their chakras.

On the Sunshine Coast, thousands gathered for fireworks displays at Mooloolaba, Kings Beach, Caloundra and other venues across the region.

Families enjoyed an 8.30pm show while late night revellers held out for the midnight spectacular.

Sydney put on the nation's best display, as seen in this video below.
