Weekend of culture at Bentley

ART LOVERS can look forward to this weekend with more than 700 artworks drawn from far and wide for the 28th Bentley art prize.

Running from today to Sunday at Bentley public hall, the event has categories from painting to photography to scrapbooking.

With $8500 prize money on offer, it features entries from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast, as well as from the thriving local art scene.

"The quality is excellent this year," said organiser Helen Trustum.

"The entries have come from as far as the Rocks in Sydney, Toowoomba to Tamworth, plus all of the local areas, including eight local schools from Wyrallah to Rukenvale."

The event is head- lined by the Tursa open painting prize and the Casino RSM Club acquisition painting prize, both with $1000 to the winner.

It opens to the public from 7pm-9pm today, 9am-5pm tomorrow and 9am-3pm on Sunday, with the official opening by Richmond Valley Council GM John Walker at 1pm tomorrow, followed by prizegiving.
