Weekend events on the Northern Rivers

IF you've spent the last couple of weekends on the Northern Rivers, you're probably wanting a break to get over the Byron Writer's Festival and Splendour in the Grass.

Take some time out to relax and unwind by visiting one of the many gallery exhibitions that are showcasing the best work by local and national artists.

If you're in the Grafton area, its regional gallery has a wonderful selection of pieces on show.

There's the Zom Osbourne collection Pinch Me To See If You Are Dreaming, a series of miniature water colours depicting the inside life of this north coast artist.

Originally from America, Zom Osbourne immigrated to Australia in 1985 and based herself in the small area of Goonengerry - about 15 minutes inland from Byron Bay.

When you look at Osbourne's work, a peaceful feeling washes over you as you're whisked away to some other part of the world both real and imaginary almost as if the serenity of the Northern Rivers has found its way into her paintings.

Osbourne may not have works in metropolitan galleries, but she has featured in exhibitions like the Border Art prize (Tweed Heads) and the Charles Hewitt Gallery in Sydney.

Zom Osbourne's work is not to be missed, so be sure to visit the Grafton Regional Gallery and enjoy the pieces on offer.
